As Nicky Gumbel spoke in Jerusalem on Easter Day, few would have imagined the year ending in military conflict. But despite wars across Europe and the Middle East – most notably in Ukraine, Yemen, and Gaza – the gospel is advancing through Alpha. In the Catholic context, representing a third of all Alpha courses in the region, we have seen a 45% growth in participants. 

 

Alpha Youth 

We were excited to play a part in World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal. This global event, hosted by the Pope every three years, gathers over a million young people and youth leaders as an opportunity to ‘personally experience the universality of the Catholic Church.’ Over 1,000 participants were welcomed to a local hub church for an in-person “Experience Alpha” event.

Middle East

Thanks to your support, we have expanded our team in the Middle East and opened offices in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordon. We are also developing a contextualised Arabic Alpha Film Series, which will greatly impact the region. 

 

Prison Ministry

Under the banner of Fortress Productions, Alpha UK has run a series of projects to bring positive stories of faith into mainstream media. One programme, a one-hour special sharing a message of hope and an invitation to Alpha, was broadcast to all UK prisons on Christmas Day. 

 

This is Alpha

In June, 450 Alpha leaders gathered for our first This is Alpha conference, designed for those new to Alpha. The day was so successful that we will run it regionally in four cities across the UK in 2024 (Belfast, Manchester, Perth and Wrexham).

Stay Curious campaign

An invitational marketing campaign involving churches all over the UK was launched. We offered a free banner to all churches registering over the summer (600 were ordered) and provided matched funding for strategic hub churches to help promote their Alpha courses.
